The Management structure of The Castletownbere Family
& Community Resource Centre Ltd., "The Haven" is broad
based and covers all facets of life on the peninsula. This has proved
invaluable in our discussions so far and has resulted in a balanced
and well thought out workplan.
Beara Action Group have been instrumental in getting this project
off the ground and are represented on the board by Denis Regan,
a farmer from Castletownbere. With his in-depth knowledge of the
farming community and its problem, he is ideally placed to identify
the needs of that sector. He has also been elected treasurer of
"The Haven".
Evelyn O'Donoghue, comes from a long standing business family in
Castletownbere and is involved with many organisations - such as
Community Alert and Co-Action Beara. Her mature and thoughtful contributions
to our meetings have been invaluable.
Michael O'Neill, from Cahermore, in the parish of Allihies, is
a fisherman in his 30's. He has a young family and a growing business,
but still gives of his time for the good of his community. He was
elected Assistant Treasurer at the AGM in October '04
Geraldine Sheehan, from Urhan, gives the group a good geographical
spread and brings her experience of the childcare sector to our
board. She is now assistant secretary, having served as Company
Secretary for year 1.
Youth is represented by Sabrina Murphy from Castletownbere and
Gwen O'Donovan, leader of the Beara Youth Developoment Project.
Both have been working on different youth programmes over the past
few years.
Gina Lewis, has participaed on a local Community Employment Scheme
and has done a substantial amount of research, on the very problems
we hope to address.
Niall Wright, has a number of Karate Clubs running all over Beara
and indeed beyond. He has experience of dealing with all age groups
and has remarked of the lack of facilities throughout the peninsula.
Brian O'Sullivan, from Eyeries, has been a Community Employment
Supervisor in Beara for eleven years and has a thorough knowledge
of the different areas of disadvantage. Married with two children,
he has been involved with Beara Action Group for many years and
does some sign-writing in his spare time.
Noralene Ni Urdail, is a teacher in Scoil Phobail Bheara and lives
in Ardgroom near the Kerry border. She has a first hand knowledge
of the problems encountered by teenagers and early school leavers
and has a number of specific ideas and proposals to address these
problems. She has been elected as Company Secretary at AGM held
in October.
Mary Martin-Sullivan, now our Co-Ordinator, has worked tirelessly
over the years to bring the plight of the disadvantaged in Beara
to the notice of relevant government departments and agencies. Her
work at Beara Action Group has been instrumental in getting the
project to this stage.
Tadgh O'Sullivan has been elected chairperson of our board. A Community
Employment Supervisor for ten years, he has served as an officer
of Beara G.A.A. and coming from the parish of Allihies, is involved
with the Allihies Parish Co-Op and represents that side of the peninsula.
Miriam Kerr, who has recently moved to the area was appointed as
the Project Administrator (Part-Time) and commenced employment on
January 4th 2005.
In summary, we have people from their twenties to their sixties,
who have experienced and witnessed disadvantage in their lives.
Mary works from 9.00am to 5.00pm. However, due to committments
in the outreach areas and meetings, she may be away from the office
from time to time. Miriam's hours are from 10.00am to 2.00pm Mon.,
Wed.to Fri. and from 10.30am to 2.00pm on Tuesdays.
